Stop Flirting with Your Dreams and Other Browseworthy Links

Five - 3d red numberThis week’s top five browseworthy links …

1. I’m a big fan of Paul Wilson, Jr. Every week he lives up his role as CIO – Chief Inspiration Officer, sharing great inspiration thoughts reflection provoking questions. I am anxiously awaiting my copy of his new book Dream B.I.G. in 3-D. His article, Stop Flirting with Your Dreams offers readers a sample of his practical insight into how to live on and in purpose. Here are a few ways to tell if you’re just flirting:What does flirting with a dream look like?

* Talk about dreams and aspirations randomly but not all the time
* All talk but no action or follow through
* Action is inconsistent or half-hearted
* Start down a path, but when things become harder than expected they turn their attention to something else
* Always looking for the easy way out
* Easily distracted and always chasing the next big thing
* Not willing to take risk

2. If you think work and fun are mutually exclusive terms than check out this article I found on Career Diva’s blog: Negativity is a Career Killer. I think it is a fundamental right to be happy at work, life is too short to waste 8 hours a day being grumpy. Besides, being unhappy at work isn’t just about you – consider the torture impact on your co-workers and customers.

3. “Your resume is great and the interview went well. But we’ve decided not to make you an offer because we think you’re overqualified for the position.” In the midst of a job search, this has to be one of the most frustrating phrases to hear. Here’s a smart, on-point article that offers ten tactics to incorporate in your job search strategy specifically to deal with this issue: Fighting the Overqualified Label: 10 Tactics for a Successful Job-Search.

4. In the mood for a fresh perspective on the branding conversation? Thinker and Spreader of Ideas ( I love that description), Vincent Hunt, shares an excellent post on changing how we think about talent and titles. You can read his full post here: A New Breed of Performer. Are You One?

5. Taking Your Career From Bright to Brilliant: This final link combines two of my favorite on-line tools: Twitter and Squidoo. I created a lens made up of my favorite career related tweets from a number of different Tweeple. The lens also includes a link to a mini- video about career coaching and a few recommended reads from Amazon.com.

Happy Browsing!
