Career Makeover Strategy: Letting Go

Career Makeover Strategy #2

The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become. – Charles Dubios

It sounds like a great idea. Leaving your “day” job to pursue your passion on a full time basis. But if you’ve reached a certain level of success in your current role, it can be hard to let go of the recognition, sense of accomplishment and perhaps salary you’ve earned over the years.

Before you head out, consider the cost and prepare for it. Prepare for gut reactions from other people who think it shocking that you would want to leave your good job to be your own boss. Prepare for the nay-sayers who will not invest in your idea even by sowing encouragement. Prepare for your own reaction when you can no longer introduce yourself with a high title from a well-known corporate entity.

Most of all prepare for the success you are destined to find when you let go of the things the ego wants to hold onto at the risk of casting your passion and purpose aside. Do you believe that what you are to become is greater than where you are now? Without that belief, every one else’s idea about who you are will matter more – no matter how wrong they are. Once you know in the core of your heart, mind and spirit that there is something more for you than where you are now, it will be easy to give up the title, money and things that have become part of an identity that no longer suits you. And easier for you to open up to receive what’s next.

Are you ready to go from bright to brilliant? Begin by letting go of the thoughts about yourself that keep you from doing that new and different thing that will surely brng you to a new place.

Very inspiring…as a good friend use to say to me; sometimes you have to cast everything a detach yourself from everything – your succeses, your failures, your everything and profess God… Only then can you truly move one!

Sorry to ramble – but this one came right on time! Thanks, Tai.

Tai, this is so encouraging. Thanks for your perspective. This recession is certainly providing a lot of opportunities for people to let go and find what they really want out of life- if they can just move on.

    Thanks again,

    Danny Fitzpatrick
